HYSA, Harwinton Youth Sports Association, soccer, baseball, Field Hockey, Basketball, Harwinton fun kids,The Harwinton Youth Sports Association (HYSA) is a non-profit organization formed to develop and maintain a high quality of recreational activities
Recreational (Rec) Soccer teaches continues building agility, stamina, and strength with more emphasis on the rules of the game and friendly competition. Rec fields are much larger than Micro fields. Practices are designed to build teamwork, fitness, skills, and the will to win.
These teams participate in an inter-town league with other U8 teams from Burlington. Games are generally on Saturday mornings. The season is generally 8-10 weeks with 4 games played at home and 4 games played away. Rec schedules are announced as soon as they become available.
These teams generally meet one-two evenings during the week for 60 minute practices. Practices are frequently shortened by darkness in late Fall. Start times are usually dictated by the coaches work schedule and availability of volunteers to assist with setting up for practice.
Each coach will introduce rules, tactics, and skills at an appropriate pace. Rules should be enforced more strictly in Rec Soccer than they were in Micro Soccer, but it is typical to stop a game, explain a rule, and give a younger player a second chance when a teaching moment arises. Positions, formations, and on-field tactics will be explained further while continuing to developed already learned skills. Subtle rules like off-sides and indirect free kicks will typically remain untaught until at least U9.
Rec soccer uniforms consist of a HYSA jersey. Jerseys are handed out at the beginning of the Fall Season. If you do not participate in the Fall, you will be provided a Jersey in the Spring. Rec jerseys are required for games. Players are responsible for shorts, socks, shin guards, and cleats. Coaches may request players wear matching shorts and socks on game days.
